Oil Changes in Etna Green, IN

No matter what kind of vehicle you drive, you need to change the oil pursuant to the manufacturer’s recommendations, even if you use synthetic oil. While synthetic oil doesn’t break down like regular oil, it does get dirty – and dirty oil increases friction, which increases the heat in the engine. With the close tolerances between bearings, pistons and rings, and other components, you can’t afford to ignore oil change recommendations.

When you need an oil change, call Mast Service Center in Etna Green IN at 574-646-2127 to schedule an appointment with one of our mechanics.

Vehicle Health Checkup

Changing the oil also helps you learn about imminent problems and upcoming issues. Because we care about our customers, we look for potential issues in the hopes that we can keep you from unexpectedly breaking down on the road. If needed, we can take photos of the issues and send them to you. When we put your vehicle on a lift or in a lube bay to change the oil, we’ll check for several problems, including:

  • Oil leaks.
  • Transmission fluid leaks.
  • Power steering fluid leaks.
  • Brake fluid leaks.
  • Coolant leaks.
  • Worn brake pads and scored rotors.
  • Bad bushings.
  • Worn springs, shocks and struts.
  • Dry rotted belts.
  • Failing brake lines.
  • Failing radiator hoses.
  • Uneven tire wear.
  • Normal tire tread wear.
  • Issues with the exhaust system.
  • Air brake issues, including bad air lines.

We will let you know if we find anything that needs your attention and whether the problem needs immediate attention or if it can wait. For example, if the brake pads look low, we’ll let you know that you can replace them now or wait a bit, depending on how low the pads are.

The Basics of an Oil Change

When you bring your vehicle in for an oil change, we’ll pull it in and put it up on the lift (large vehicles will go in a lube bay instead of on a lift). We remove the old oil filter and the oil drain plug. While the oil is draining, we’ll look at the undercarriage of your vehicle, the brakes, tires and suspension for issues. We also check for leaks.
Our oil change mechanic takes note of any issues he finds, then screws the new filter on and puts the drain plug back into the oil pan. When he lowers the vehicle, he fills the crankcase with the appropriate oil and checks the top of the engine for problems.

The auto technician will start the vehicle to make sure the new filter and the drain plug are not leaking. He’ll check to make sure the oil pressure comes up as it should.

When he finishes the oil change, he will let you know of his recommendations for issues he found, if any.
