Indiana boasts friendly locals, Midwestern charm, and lots of festive holiday activities. The Hoosier State always offers something to do. Check out some of the best places to see Christmas lights while you’re in Indiana.
1. Charlestown
“The Christmas City” is the loving nickname of Charlestown and it indeed is one of Indiana’s jolliest cities. The main street turns into a magical Christmas Village during the holidays. The annual festivities include an incredible light show and activities that include mini-golf, ice skating, and other activities for the whole family to enjoy. Take a ride on the Charlestown Express holiday train and enjoy some hot chocolate and apple cider. You can even get a picture with the one and only Santa Claus. If you want to keep the celebration going, go across the street to Greenway Park’s Winter Wonderland light display.
2. Santa Claus
How can a town called Santa Clause not be “the place to be” during the Christmas season? This jolly town provides a variety of Christmas events for the whole family to enjoy. Pursue the sparkle of Lake Rudolph’s 12-mile drive-through Santa Claus Land of Lights. The glowing show of lights tells you the classic tale of Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. Take a peek into Santa’s Candy Castle that sells a wide array of cocoa and other holiday treats. On some days throughout the holiday season, the castle hosts an impressive event called “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire” where visitors and locals gather around the fire to roast chestnuts, share stories, and learn all about the history of this popular American Christmastime tradition.
3. Kokomo
The thriving city of Kokomo is located in the heart of Indiana and boasts many historical sites, an eclectic downtown area, and Christmas cheer is in abundance. Be sure to check out We Care Park for a gorgeous light display that you can explore by foot or car. Highland Park also has a remarkable light display called “City of Lights” that has more than 50 creative holiday light displays. Christmas at The Seiberling, a historic mansion, is another must-see that includes holiday lights, wreaths, Christmas trees, and other traditional, ornate creations. When you’re in Kokomo, be sure to take a ride on the famous Polar Bear Express train. You can enjoy views of the stunning Indiana countryside decorated like the North Pole and enjoy treats like candy canes, hot cocoa, and cookies. You can even meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and their helpers!
